6.  Rhode Haven Railroad

Marshall Sommer

Ski Valley Condominiums

80 Fisher Road   Unit #62

Cumberland, R.I. 02864

Tel #1-401-333-9647

The Rhode Haven is a freelanced HO railroad using New Haven power.  If all goes well trains will run this year. It is set in the 1930’s through 1940’s era.  Since I live in a condo I do not have a lot of room in the basement so I used two rooms with a duck under to try and incorporate as much railroading as possible. A third room was added in 2013 and is under construction. The main room consists of a large city and yard and the small room has a smaller town and country. The railroad features many craftsman kits as well as kit bashed and scratch built structures. The harbor peninsula is now complete and features a large waterfront area with many structures, boats and a branch line. Progress has been made this year with a new addition and additional mainline, leading to the eventual elimination of the duck under. This will also make space for more of Marshall’s craftsman and scratch built structures. Marshall was  lucky enough to have Lou Sassi shoot the layout which was published in February 2010  Model Railroader. The layout is also featured in a Model Railroad Masters DVD by FOS. Directions to Fisher Rd can be found in Google maps.  Once you get to Fisher Rd. you go up all the way until you get to a small post office on the right. Take the first right after the post office, go up the hill and take a left at the stone wall  Continue straight and look for # 62 on the left. If you get lost call 1-401-333-9647. NOTE: 80 is the mailing address look for UNIT # 62.

7. Pennsy Middle Division

Jimmy Deignan

164 Flagler Drive

Holden, MA. 01520

Tel # 774-364-7513

The famous “Pennsy Middle Division” originally built in 1992 by Dave Frary & Bob Hayden for a series of 9 articles in Kalmbach Publishing’s Model RailroaderMagazine. The feature ran from January 1993 until September of 1993.  The articles were then brought together and published in a book in 1994.  For years, the layout toured the United States with Greenberg Train Shows, a division of Kalmbach Publishing. Jimmy bought it in 2000 and has since expanded it greatly. It was a Model Railroader  cover story again when it was featured in February 2013. Fos Scale Models also made a DVD video of the layout. It is an HO scale double track mainline with several yards and switching opportunities for operators. DCC by NCE. All turnouts are DCC controlled  Approx size is  24' x 20' and the layout is handicapped & wheelchair accessible. The freelanced layout is set in  autumn during the Steam / Diesel transition era.  More information, video's, and photo's can be found athttp://www.craftsmankits.com/layout.html

Armand has a freelance HO scale layout located in a 15 X 28  foot area of his basement. It is built with two Main lines. It is controlled by a Lenz DCC system and can also be operated with conventional DC. It models small town New England mountain areas. The layout has many scratch built and craftsman kit structures with lighting and animation. Scenery is 99%.

9. Southern New England Railroad
Jason and Pam Fontaine
39 Fitzgerald Road

Charlton, Ma  01507

Tel # 1-774-230-1246

The Southern New England Railroad (SNE) is a freelance HO scale railroad of the planned CN/CV extension from Palmer, MA to Providence, RI.  The sinking of the Titanic played a major part in this railroad never being completed. I am modelin the SNE as it would have been in autumn of the transition era. My backdrop is photos shot by Lou Sassi which were blended together to make an 80’ virtually seamless panoramic view of New England.  I have Craftsman and scratch-built structures with very detailed scenes.  Since the layout was featured in the July 2010  Model Railroader, it has been doubled in size -  now 14’ by 40’.  The entire section (Southbridge) 11’ x 3’ was cut out and moved 16’ away and reconnected with the new track plan.  The new trackage is now up and running and scenes are  being re-worked and repaired. The scenery which was 100% completed on the original layout is now about 50%  completed on the expanded version.  The layout is operated by North Coast Engineering DCC. Please visit my website at:   http://www.snerr.net for more photos and information.

Topic : Lionel Trains from the 50's

I have 7 large boxes of Lionel Trains, tracks and accessories from the 1950's.  They have been packed in the boxes since the 60's and I was wondering if someone can tell me where I can sell them and not get cheated.  Some of the trains and accessories are in the original boxes. I also found many instruction manuals.

JB and I just finished (well not quite, there's a bit more to do) installing, wiring and programming the scratch built 130' turntable.

The best part, it works ! Laughing

A quick and dirty video of the 'not quite ready for prime time' turntable is available on You Tube.

Watch enough railroad-related videos on YouTube, and it will eventually suggest something interesting to watch.

Here's one on the long side, but interesting - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZjYL847KnI

One of our members, Bob LaMontagne,  brought in 'a few' boxes of cars and assembled (IMHO) a very nice transition era freight.

I managed to capture it on video as it crossed over Mollahan Span on it's way north.

Take a look [ click here ] to view it on You Tube.

Ray, thanks for the answer.  You're right, a lot of the track is visible, but some areas I can't make out like the crossovers and turnouts to the left of the gray building with the Boise-Cascade sign, the area between that building and to the right to the gray building with the awning, and the area down to the tank unloading.  If you could, a plan, or more pics would be a great help.  You can email me direct or post here, whichever you think.

Hello. to the PN layout guys, and everyone else on this forum  I just retired after 27 years with the military.  Made a lot of buildings, freight cars, and other items related to modeling a papermill, but in all the moving around never got a real layout done.  Now I have the time, space, and most of the things already put together.  Your mill looks great, and is about the style / size I'm looking to do.  Have you got a track plan.  Would love to visit you sometime, but you're at least a 12 hour drive away.

Railroad term:  Bend the Iron, meaning "to throw a switch".

I just installed a 3-way stub switch on the yard throat of my model railroad and while I'm not bending iron rail, I am bending some nickle-silver code 83, HO rail.

i loved the Diablo 3 Gold online and in a magizine, i did like it

I'm looking at some movie realized the fact that examine to took a single a fantastic offer more casual in comparison to 6-s heroes. Buyhere Store For Cheap Diablo 3 Gold is your right choice. Best here protagonists merely (bezprepyadstvenno) and nashinkovyvayut enemies are slender and fabulous as an pricey chinese language program language restaurant. Opponents are released best here "as a whipping boy. "

Blizzar which later on blocked) utilizing a Diablo-3 diablo3 gold Blizzard has carried out so in standard the 3rd element dependent on the constant internet connection. That is, Starcraft two competencies just a single assignment you can hold out offline then Diablo -3 bummer.
Now, if you in fact choose to hold out single-player campaign, it is vital to connect to battle. net, that will check your account (explained like a create of deception versus the individuals these occasions who pumped his charov offline, best after which went to multiplayer and do it lasciviousness). Which means you know, all of the lasting avid gamers of Diablo three is on the way in which to be below the relentless eyesight within inside the all-seeing eyesight Battle. net? Blizzard persists to produce movie gaming titles for "zadroty" pomimoWOW arrived out Star craft 2, and here's a single a fantastic offer more Diablo-3, specifically where on Battle. net to collect what it factors to important inside the league, and more. That is, just to acquire to be viewed as a warrior degree 80 is not enough. Battle. net handy problem I do not argue, but just like that depend concerning the internet, I believe it is nonsense.
Granted the fact that individuals invest utilizing the Internet, and never Blizzard. this might be certainly an effective fight versus piracy, but at precisely the extremely identical time, the distribute for every single and every single examine to for dollar sixty and do not hold out Diablo-3 merely attributed to the fact I like govnolink minimize the internet for just about any couple of a volume of several hours and even what your selected provider. Foreign power on the Providence Northern.

The locos belong to Ray S., and believe it or not, they made it all the way around the layout, twice. Laughing

Thanks Ray.

Wayne, good idea about the LGB setup around the pool - have you decided what you'll use for delivering drinks poolside? Maybe a couple of gons carrying plastic glasses? Or send tankers around and everyone carries their own straw?? Laughing

Wayne I know where you can get the track and the alligator for a good price, and you are right about boats. My Dad had a 50 foot sport fisherman with twin GM diesels. It got 2 miles per gallon and would go about 26 knots. Have fun with the pool and your friends. When the kids were small were you the neighborhood day care? My aunt use to complain she babysat and fed the whole neighborhood. Obviously you are enjoying it, and if it makes you feel better it can be very lonely at the club even on Saturdays.

Hi all not wishing the summer away But model railroading is severely restricted for me during the summer unless it pours!!, Labor day is pool closure an no more parties to host. Never put a pool in! It is amazing how u become a slave of the pool on the weekends. Kind of like owning a boat. I have a friend who owns a boat and says thanks doesn't! Buy gas...can spend $500 just going to block island for the weekend!. U can spend a good amount of bucks on a weekend party at the pool for all the people who want to come over an use the heated pool. I rather be "playing" with trains at home or at the club. Too many projects on hold as I play host! Not that I am complaining of having a lot of friends but it does at times get in the way of trains. Hope all had a good July 4th week! I certainly did .... Great weather! See all Tuesday for the business meeting. Chris hope u are kicking a** at BBQ compitions. Thinking about putting a loop of lgb with a couple of sidings around the pool. :-). I have always liked the alligator engines!, Wayne

Topic : New Micro-Video Cam Test

I tested a Looxcie 2 micro cam on the PN layout last Tuesday.

Here is a picture of it mounted on a 40' flatcar (HO): [ click here ] (imgur)

What initially got my attention, was someone actually stuffed one of these into a Z-Scale railcar, with room to spare !  Admittedly he removed the Looxcie's shell to do it, but even without taking it out of the shell, it's pretty small.  Google for information and specifications.

Here is the video I took with the camera mounted on a flatcar: [ click here ] (You Tube)

Resolution isn't as good as the keychain micro-cam I've previously posted, but the controls are better and if you own an iPhone or Android smartphone it pipes the video over via Bluetooth.  It can also functions as a Bluetooth headset for your cell phone if your so inclined.

Here is a picture, a video frame, that was edited out. [ click here ] A handful of NCE Engineer Cab and an iPhone displaying what the micro-cam is recording.

Dave,

Do you need the whole article or just the schematic ?

I can easily email you a copy of the schematic, a copy of the whole article might be too a little too large for the email system.

Roland

Jay,

We need one of these new vending machines that are soon to be imported into the US.

I'm sure it would be a hit with the members. . . Laughing

Wow, and I thought the only "service tool" on Amtrak was known as The Emperor.

According to the following post:

http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/news/comments/amtrak-using-iphones-as-service-tools/

iPhones will be replacing the venerable ticket punch on Amtrak passenger trains.

How cool is that !

Wayne that would be an interesting problem for Chris and Roland. Cliff has signals and a DPDT switch that controls the track power
